Fluids & Co is proud to announce that Carleton University in Ottawa signed a Research and Academic agreement with PSRE to work with the PASS Suite.
Discover the PASS Software Academic Program!
Many institution’s engineering programs are becoming increasingly computer based with a growing reliance on commercial engineering software applications. To support academia in preparing of young engineer professionals, PASS team has designed Academic License program aimed to provide institutions with free access to the PASS Software.
The Academic Licensing program allows the use of PASS software for instructional and research purposes. The software can be installed in a classroom or lab as well as on teachers’ personal computers. Under the academic license, the use of the software for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.
The PASS Software offers smart, easy-to-use analysis, simulation, and code compliant sizing tools for every piping and equipment engineer/designer enabling new users to perform piping and related equipment analysis in days rather than months.
PASS team intends to be a part of providing a strong engineering education to prepare young engineers entering the professional world with all the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.
Academic licenses are provided free of charge in exchange for active work in research activities with publications (e.g. master and PhD thesis) referencing the PASS Software for Research Licenses or active use in classrooms for Teaching Licenses.
Program Benefits
- Incorporate industry-standard technology into the education programs,
- Get access to entire portfolio of PASS software,
- Get full featured software at no cost,
- Choose one of two (or both) options available: PASS software for teaching purposes or for research,
- Get new releases of software for free,
- Give your students the skills they need for internships and today’s workforce,
- Enable your students to find work faster by gaining experience with the industry’s widely used software.
PASS Suite at Carleton
The use of 2 items from the PASS Suite, Hydrosystem and Start-prof would be under the supervision of Professor Henry Saari, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
They would use the software to perform piping analysis for various supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) Brayton cycle plants. sCO2 power cycles are new, advanced, high-efficiency power cycles that have attracted a fair bit of research and development interest over the last decade.
The work that they have been doing on sCO2 Brayton cycle development in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University has been done primarily through one of their capstone engineering projects, the Gas Turbine Project.
Students in their programs are divided into 10 or 11 projects of approximately 20 to 30 students, supervised by professors and industry or government engineers as project managers and lead engineers. These projects are meant to emulate the working environment that students may find in industry when they graduate, while working on real-world designs.
In the current Gas Turbine Project, several students are designing the piping system for a 100 MWe sCO2 Brayton cycle power plant, and then will study the scaling of that system to 50 and 300 MWe.
We feel that the PASS software would allow the students to do a better, more complete design of the piping, while gaining experience with an industrially relevant software package
Professor Henry Saari
PSRE and Fluids & Co were pleased to agree the feeling of Professor Henry Saari and to provide Carleton University with the needed licenses and the associated services.
